I am an 18 year old male and recently discovered that I feel very odd when I get in my bed to go to sleep. I will try and do my best to explain what happens exactly, but it is very hard to describe. After a while, after closing my eyes, I begin to feel as if I'm not really there. I feel like I'm not actually alive in some sense. I know I'm not asleep at the time because I can think through everything and know it's happening. I become very uncomfortable. I can hear things going on around me, normal things, but they just don't sound normal. Everything I hear seems to be miles away, but I know they aren't. If anyone has any information on what is exactly going on that would be very helpful. I understand if no one has anything because it is so difficult to explain. Thanks.

I'm no doctor but that sounds kind of like depersonalization to me, possibly an anxiety related symptom.
"Depersonalization is a feeling of detachment or estrangement from one's self. There may be a sensation of being an outside observer of one's metal processes, one's body, or parts of one's body."

You might want to do a search for the terms "hypnogogic" and/or "sleep paralysis".
