Personally, I carry granola bars, mixed nuts, and crackers around wherever I go and just snack when I need to. It's generally a good idea to have something to eat every hour or so (for me, anyway). Welp, that's all I've got. Good luck. :] zekat 06-30-2008, 01:00 AM Is it bothering you? The low blood pressure, that is? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Mine was low and making me dizzy so I quit taking my BP meds :D Outside of that, I would have my thyroid checked. flowergirl2day 06-30-2008, 02:26 AM zekat, :) how are you doing without your bp meds? Which ones have you quit taking? How has this affected your blood pressure readings? I am very curious. I had similar problems not so long ago. I learned last week that I was taking my Norvasc at the wrong time of day. Apparently, Norvasc should be taken in the evenings (I didn't ask why, but that's what I do now). I also take my full dose of the ACE inhibitor again, not a reduced one (1/2). I now get fewer readings below 100 systolic and 70 diastolic. Which means that the 1/2 dose of an ACE has had little or no lowering effect on blood pressure. I remember reading about this. A medication is effective up to a certain therapeutic dose. After that dosing level has been reached, there's no further blood pressure lowering effect (just greater frequency and intensity of adverse effects). My blood pressure is not as low now. I don't have to worry about it dropping too much anymore (for now). FG aether4 06-30-2008, 05:38 PM Try to find out if there's an underlying cause. Get your blood sugar checked, thorough thyroid testing, vitamin D and B12 checked. CBC and electrolyte tests should be ordered by your doctor whenever you get blood work anyways. You do need to drink water, even if you're drinking gatorade too. Be careful in the heat as it makes blood vessels dilate and lowers blood pressure more. If it's actually causing dizziness/lightheadedness and other symptoms of pre-syncope (near fainting) or actually syncope, then please press your doctor to do something. If truly necessary there are meds to help raise blood pressure. zekat 06-30-2008, 11:02 PM My blood pressure has been great since dropping Diovan 160. I certainly needed something when I was put on meds, but I've been working out hard for the last 6 months and have dropped some weight. Also, I'm 32 so i'm sure that helps. I'm averaging 110/77 without meds (for over a month now). However, if I go over 3-4 days without taking my BP, it's high the next time I take it. I realize I'm a control freak & need to continue working on that, but in the meantime I'd rather take my BP reading every day than take a med :) |
