Hi everyone,
I have advanced periodontal disease and have had, five years ago, root planing and deep scaling in the four quadrants of my mouth.
My gums reacted well to the treatment and my specialist and hygienist were very pleased.
However, over the years my gums have receded more and, upon my latest visit to the dentist she has again referred me to the specialist.
My top back teeth appear to have the deepest pockets and it is the top left which have become ultra sensitive to hot and cold.
I had been using a supermarket own brand of sensitive toothpaste, which had been fine, but, with the flare up lasting a few weeks now, I thought I would try the more expensive branded product.
I have used Sensodyne in the past and it has been okay however, I brushed my teeth with Sensodyne total care (gentle whitening) at about 7pm on Wednesday evening and did not eat or drink anything more.
At about 11.30pm I rinsed my mouth with Plax mouthwash and noticed something adhereing to my front tooth. I prodded it with my tongue, as you do, and couldn't dislodge it. When I looked in the mirror I could see a long sticky strand of a clear substance.
This 'sticky substance', as I pulled on it, was attached to the inside of my upper lip. It was skin!
Anyway, the upshot is that the very top layer of skin around my mouth was peeling off like a snake shedding its skin.
I continued with the Sensodyne until Thursday morning whereupon I decided, because of the continued skin shedding, to switch back to my former toothpaste.
Literally overnight the skin peeling stopped and now,Sunday, my mouth is back to how it was.
My question is, has anyone else had this experience with Sensodyne, or indeed any toothpaste?
I was shocked to say the least.
Any comments would be welcome as I am wary of using more of this product.
Best wishes.

I had sensitive teeth that I thought would benefit from using Sensodyme tooth paste. I brushed my teeth and rinsed it out. My gums were burning so I never used it again. It's got Nitrate in it which isn't good for you.

I used sensodyne gentle whitening without any problem but then decided to switch to sensodyne total care....to which I had such a severe allergic reaction like I have never experienced before......I sneezed for a week & had flu like symptoms , my tongue had very painful blisters & inner cheeks & gums had white painful spots on it, it was painful to even eat.
went to the doc she thought the white spots were thrush (never had that before) shes taken a swab and am awaiting test results.
I hate to think what chemicals they put in toothpaste these days
throw it in the rubbish

that is very worrying ,have you got a trading standards where you live? get them to investigate the product? if not write to the company ,the address should be on the packet ,and ask them to get it analyised ,as there could be somethign wrong in the product .also it would help the company ,to investigate their product, also they could warn customers of the risk of some allergies against their product
i would if i were you ,sending it off to send it recorded delivery,so you know they have recieved it ,also so they cant say theyve not recieved it
but you are right to stop using it

when I realised what was the cause of my mouth problems , my first reaction was to put it in the rubbish, so complaining to the company at this stage would be a waste of time , the best I can do now is to warn others to stay away from sensodyne products
