If I, a woman have the virus but is dormant and suddenly becomes active and level 3, then find out my partner of a year has had it previously, could his having it have caused mine to become active again?

Are you talking about high risk or low risk HPV?
If you are talking high risk, then I think there is no way of really knowing how/why the virus activates, especially after a period of time. I really think it is a guessing game.

It's also possible you caught a different strain of the virus from him and that is the one that is now active.
