I am a woman, 49, who is diagnosed with diabetes and bad cholesterol. However, my diabetes is controlled through diet. I was taking Simvastatin and my cholesterol levels were good after three months on that medication. During the past couple of months I gradually developed some physical ailments. At first, I thought that I had just stressed my body from working out. I was experiencing dramatic and incapacitating pain in my ankles and my back was bothering me much more than it normally does. When these ailments started to increase and decrease in severity and did not seem to correspond to physical activity, I began to worry that it could be a drug reaction. I contacted my physician and she had me come in for blood tests. She said the muscle tests are normal. She did not tell me to stop taking the Simvastin, but I did anyway. The muscle pain went away briefly and then returned. Since then, my hands have started tingling and I am very worried. My Doctor just emailed me that my blood sugar and cholesterol numbers are a bit elevated. That is no surprise since I have been unable to exercise for more than two months. The blood tests were just prior to when I stopped taking the Simvastatin and the results were Glycohemoglobin, 6.8 and the LDL cholesterol was 108. That was about a week and a half ago. As I said my numbers were/are a little high because of my inability to exercise. They may be higher now that I am not taking any medication for cholesterol. I don't know my other numbers yet, just those were emailed.

Maybe I am crazy, but I think something is wrong with me. Evidently, my physician does not. She seems concerned only that my numbers have gone up and does not seem to be getting the horse and cart issue here - that the numbers went up because physical pain and weakness is crippling me. No comment from her regarding the tingling either. She just said that the tests showed that my muscles are normal and that she felt she could wait and speak with me at our appointment on April 4, over two weeks from now.

I have to sometimes hold onto the wall just to go up and down stairs. Both my hands tingle. I have experienced unusual back pain and some discomfort in my right arm. Yesterday I felt a little achy everywhere. By late evening I started to experience pain in my groin. This morning the groin pain is still there plus tingling and generalized weakness, particularly significant in the ankles, and arm/hand area. I also have a fever that ranges between 99.5 and 100 degrees. My physician is aware of all the symptoms but she did not ask me if I had a fever and I just realized that I am running a temp this evening. Is there cause for alarm?

I suspect that my physician is just going to tell me to start taking a drug for the diabetes because the number went up a little and prescribe a new cholesterol medication. I feel as though I am being ignored. My track record with my provider is not good, although I have a new primary care physician and she has a very good reputation. I have been misdiagnosed previously surrounding an extreme yeast infection and in fact, that may have led to some of my current problems. I also currently have a fungus problem with my toes (I think that is yeast too) that is untreated because no one seems to want to treat it, to put it bluntly. During the more extended timeframe, I have had surgery for severe sleep apnea and a benign tumor on my larynx. I have had bad reactions to several drugs, etc.

I really don’t know what to do.

I am not a hypochondriac. I am a perfectly normal, 49 year old working woman. I was in perfect health until several years ago... Now my health problems are myriad and unabated and I don’t seem to be able to get control.

I developed a flu syndrome on Lipitor with aching
muscles up and down my entire inner legs. Chills,
covered up w/blanky, etc.
Get 2nd opinons. And buy one of those (thick)Pill Books at Walgr., for about 9.99 -- Tells all about
side effects that some references or docs
never mention!
