Has anyone successfully gotten off of Lipitor? What were the effects? I read someones notes on high cholesterol linked to hypothyroidism - it was very imformative. Can she ever get off Lipitor safely? She is also on BP med-Aetenol. Any info will help. Thank you.

Does anyone else have a slowed physical reaction similar to the Carol Burnet Show character Tim conway old man pencil sharpening guy- The way he walks. Is that joint problems caused by statins? I read in a message that niacin does this. Is there a correlation?

Your questions seem to be all over the map. If you could focus them a little more, someone can answer more easily.

Bottom line, when statins are stopped, cholesterol goes back up. Most people wouldn't call that "safe" to do. Sometimes, people who work very hard at changing their numbers succeed in staying off them, though. Just depends.

How old is she? Did she begin moving slowly since she began the Lipitor? Or maybe she had some arthritis before that? How high is her cholesterol? Has she been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease? Hypothyroidism?

We need more specifics to help.

Thanks, she is 61. Started on Lipitor and Aetenol a little over 6 months ago -has never had arthritic problems. Directly - Has anyone every heard or read of anyone dying while trying to wean from statins to lifestyle changes like taking small amounts of cod liver oil and calcium magnesium, juicing and walking 20 min a day?

Hey There: I have taken Lipitor; had great numbers,
but aching; went on Tricor and had great numbers;
with aching. Tried policosanol and non=flush niacin
to no avail. My solution at this time is to take
nothing and continue watching diet and to exercise,
daily. The aching does go away after discontinuing
the medications. Everyone wakes up in the morning
with some sort of aching but it is very important
to work it out. Exercise it away is about the only
answer. I feel great being off of all of the above.
