Some people in my AARP magazine love this diet. I got the Anti Aging Diet book and I plan on starting it as soon as I can. Question. Do you occationally go off the diet, maybe once a month.

Alice B 04-12-2003, 05:45 PM Some people in my AARP magazine love this diet. I got the Anti Aging Diet book and I plan on starting it as soon as I can. Question. Do you occationally go off the diet, maybe once a month. Sponsor BethS 04-13-2003, 12:00 PM Atkins promotes itself as a "way of life" and not a "diet." If you go off the eating plan you will find your weight loss not only stalls, but you may gain your weight back. The reason is that when you eliminate the carbs and sugars your body turns to your fat stores for energy and therefore you lose weight. If you go off the plan completely, your body will store those extra carbs as fat (like before) and will burn those for fuel. What Atkins recommends is staying on the weight loss plan until you reach your goal weight, then gradually add carbs back in until you find the right amount of carbs you can injest and not gain weight. You only increase by 5 carbs per week. For the most comprehensive information, read the Atkins "New" Diet Revolution book. It explains all I've said in detail. I have lost 16 lbs. of my total goal of 30 since January and I have a high metabolic resistance to weight loss (underactive thyroid). Nothing else have even remotely worked for me since I was diagnosed with thyroid problems in 1997. You will not only lose weight, but you will probably feel better than you've ever felt and rarely feel hungry. Stay the course! Alice B 04-13-2003, 03:49 PM Thank you for the response. The book is call Dr. Atkins Age Defying Diet. It not to show you how to get younger. If you follow the diet you're suppose to help prevent the things that they say come with age. Like high blood pressure, cholesterol. I will stay on it once I start it. I kinda started it today. From what I heard you stay away from regular sugar and bread. hunter44 04-15-2003, 09:26 AM Alice - Get Atkin's New Diet Revolution and Protein Power Life Plan by Drs. Eades. Read them twice. You will find very difficult to convert to the low carb way of eating unless you understand the science behind it. Good Luck. cloverberry 04-17-2003, 01:47 PM My friend tried the Atkins diet and she loves it. She lost a lot of weight. She says if you go off it for a day it's ok. You just start it again the next day. There are times you can't stick to it completely. I am going to try it. ARIZONA73 04-17-2003, 02:32 PM Unfortunately, Dr. Robert Atkins passed away today. I believe that he will be missed by a great number of people, especially those who have been helped by this man. cloverberry 04-22-2003, 11:44 AM I'm just getting into the Atkins diet book and he says if you go on his diet you may slip up, that's normal but you have an easier time going back on his diet. That's what I needed to hear, not that I can give up if I slip up once and a while |
