PAULEX,

The muscle pains are very very serious. Get to your doctor ASAP....really!

Personally, I think Lipitor is the better drug...There are two in the family and one of us is on each!

There's no one answer for everyone. If Zocor makes you feel bad tell your doctor and he'll try you on something else. I take Zocor with no problems.

Cloverberry? How long have you been on Zocor? I've been on it 4 weeks + now and so far, no side effects either. Holding my breath though..by the way it sounds, they still could start in.

My friend is taking 20 mg/day Zocor for about 8 months- no problems at all. I'm taking Lipitor 10 mg/day for 3 years, never a problem....
All meds should be this satisfactory.

We've each dropped close to 100 points TC in the first month.

I've been on Zocor for about 8 weeks now. I had my cholesterol checked 2 weeks ago and I going to see my doctor Friday. She's happy with my results from this medication

Read the book--'Cholesterol Control Without Diet'(The Niacin Solution) by William B. Parsons Jr., M.D.

This book describes controlling cholesterol via a very simple plan. It has worked since the mid 1950's.

sunbird owner,

Niacin undoubtedly works, albeit slightly, but from what I've seen, it's a rare person who can bear it.

I've tried over and over but the "flush," which to me feels more like an anaphylactic reaction with swollen lips and purple, itching skin down to my navel, is totally unbearable (and at 200 mg yet.)
I've done the route of 25 mg several days then to 50....at 100, I'm miserable....once at 500, I sat by the phone ready to dial 911 if my throat swelled shut.

I've palmed off my pills to several people (nearly a dozen) with the proviso...give them back if you find them intolerable. After YEARS, I still have a nearly full bottle(500 mg/ easily dividable.)

I've tried other brands....same thing.

Time release are nearly as bad symptomwise and I've read several places, they don't have much effect on cholesterol.

I have NEVER met anyone who can take 1000 mg and the books all talk about this as a "low end effective dosage."

S.O., How much do you take daily? What kind of TC drop did you get?

Summary: For me, niacin was a terrible, terrible experience with nothing to recommend it.

Warning to anyone on statins: DO NOT mix niacin with statins.

I really need to get retested. I did a home test and I got 189 as TC. That can't be right as doctor had it at 260. That would be suprising for one month on Niacin.

I take two 500 mg of time release. I have no side effects at all and still running 7 miles / week.

Will try to get more reliable results.

Jay
