Here's my understanding of it. 'Normal' BP, at least here in Europe, is a reading of less than 140 over 90. That will give you a pulse pressure of 50. That's the difference between the systolic and diastolic that you asked about. To get the PP, subtract the diastolic (say 90), from your systolic (say 140), and that will give you a reading of 50.

Now, I read on a two different websites that anything less the 60 is fine. Both sites were run my doctors. However, on another I read at or around 40 is more normal. So that would mean that a persons BP should be ideally 120 over 80.
