do lymph nodes get hard? I have had a swollen, hard, nonpainful lymph node behind my left ear for several months now. It doesn't really move. At times it seems a little smller but not sure. It doesn't hurt. I do have a bad tooth on that side and until recently my face was swollen on that side. They gave me some antibiotics for the tooth...but the lump is the same. My grandfather died of lymphoma. On the same side of that my Dad's sister, and now my Dad (is) all died/dying of cancer. Odds are not good. What do you think. my doctor is bit more laxed than I think she should be! ;(

I have a hard lymph node on the side of my neck, about the size of a pea. It's hard and not really moveable. It popped up right around the time that I was dealing with a lot of infections, including one on my scalp which probably triggered it. I was really worried; ended up in the doctor's office a lot over the course of the month because I was stressing over it. Finally the doc sat me down and told me that he has people come in all the time due to enlarged lymph nodes and that less than 1% of the time is there anything to worry about. He felt mine, said he could tell for certain it was benign, and sent me on my way.
