Does corn on the cob cause people with Herpes to have an outbreak more likely? My boyfriend refuses to eat corn on the cob because he says he read on the internet that it causes Herpes outbreak, and that he started noticing that it was true with him. I have searched the internet and found nothing to show that that is a fact. Can anyone tell me if this is a common problem? I don't have Herpes myself, but I would like to know for his sake.
Thanks.

Has it actually happened to him or did he just read it? I have never heard of it. He could be worrying himself into a coldsore. Only thing i can think of is the corn may be too hot? bizarre. It is not one of the known trigger foods.. which varies from each individual

He said that he read about it on the internet several years ago and then noticed that when he had corn that he tended to have an outbreak, so he quit eating corn period because he wasn't going to take any chances. I was just trying to see if anyone else noticed this or if I could find any scientic proof that it was true. He said it was in a medical report. I haven't been able to find anything about it, and he read it about four years ago and hasn't eaten corn since he read the report.

Never rule out anything that can't be proven but it is much more likely to be a psychosomatic association. That's very sad because he's missing a delightful treat.

Maybe because corn doesn't digest and passes back thru so "roughly", irritating the anus and opening the door for an outbreak. Just a guess, tho.
