About a week ago, I started to feel pain around my vagina. Being stubborn, I ignored it and thought that it'd eventually go away. I began to notice lumps on and around my vagina, as well as swelling. I researched my symptoms and came to the conclusion that I have herpes. I went to the doctor and she basically confirmed this, though I found out on Friday whether it is type 1 or type 2 related. The doctor gave me Famvir to help with the symptoms, urging me to take 3 x 250mg per day. So far I have been on Famvir for a day, as well as some jelly stuff that numbs the area. The jelly stuff helps for around 40 minutes, but the pain comes back again. It hurts me to walk, sit in certain ways and my sleep is constantly broken due to waking up in pain. Not to mention, urination is extremely painful - to the point where I must bite my arm to stop myself from screaming out.

So.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had such a painful experience and what they did to manage with the pain.
I know that this is my initial outbreak and none will be as bad as this in the future (at least, I hope not) but I need something NOW to help with pain relief.

Any tricks... or -anything-?

I feel your pain! I just got my test results back and I have Type 1 gentials, which my bf gave me orally and he has never even had an outbreak. Guess he's a carrier. Yes, I had open sores down there...not many but a lot of swelling. Found that if I sat on my tailbone or layed down elevating my feet worked. As far as peeing...oh my, yes it was painful at times! I was on Valtrex 2x per day (500 mg each) didn't use any cream but found that sitting in a warm bath helped a lot and not to sound gross but peeing in the shower while the warm water hit the area did help. My suffering only lasted 2 days but everyone is different! I also was approved to take 3 ibuprofen about every 4 hours for the pain. I'm still new at all this too! And my gyno did say since I contracted it orally down there that I may not ever have another outbreak. But do continue with my meds once a day.

Thank you for the advice :)
I think that I also have Type 1 because my boyfriend has had cold sores before... though he has never had any problems elsewhere and he's the only person I've really been intimate with.
