My son was tested for allergies and it seems that he is allergic to almost everything. Trees, grass, molds, dust mites. We have decided to start allergy shots and was wondering if anybody out there can give me some input on what to expect. They said it will be every week for awhile.
Just looking for some feedback.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have direct experience with allergy shots, but I can say my husband had them every week as a child b/c he was also allergic (and sick) to everything under the sun. He had horrible asthma as well.
Well, at 33 years old, he is healthy as a horse. He never gets sick, is not allergic to a thing - and we even have 2 cats! He swears the shots helped his system.
Wishing your son the best!

I chose not to do them.
My 2 year old had the scratch test done and it showed he was allegeric to everything as well. I paniced, got the epi pens, changed his whole diet, bought the air purifier, all the dust mite stuff, ripped up the carpet in his room, removed pretty much anything I couldnt wipe down. All this was done in repsonse to the dr telling I needed to do this for the health of my son. After about 2 months and a maxed out credit card, he hadnt changed. He now told me I had to bring my son in like 3 times a week for 2 weeks, then 2 times for 2 weeks then once a week after that. I was so confused by this so I actually went and got a 2nd opinion at childrens in boston. They looked at all his records and xrays did some more of their own test and low and behold and had pnemonia, pretty bad too. They tested him for CF, a few other bronchial conditions and he was fine. That dr said most of the things he tested positive were normal, that we are all allergic to those things to some degree. I was completely beside myself. They gave him bactrim, I think, for 2 weeks, high dose too. Said if this didnt work, they would go in and open up his airways surgically. Thankfully the bactrim worked. I went back to the allergist and asked why did he treat the pnemonia and he said he thought I knew he had pnemonia and was treating it and that why he didnt bring it up. I responded, "you guys took the xrays, this was his first chest xray, i told you that. I cant read them, your the dr, why didnt he treat the pnemonia?" I walked out of there with my healthly son and cancelled all the appts for the shots. He does have asthma now, had it before though, he is now 4, and I only still use the dust mite covers on the mattress and pillow because I have nothing else to do with them and it cant hurt, right.
Please understand that i am not at all telling you what to do. I am only sharing my experience. I know a few people (adults) who get these shots and they need them and would be so sick without them. I am just glad I got the 2nd opinion, just wish I got it before I bought all the stuff he told me to. :)
I wish you and your son the best of luck.
