i am searching for that perfect pill. The one you take to relieve anxiety without causing horrible side effects. I've been the benzo route and want to stay away from them so it seems it leaves me with hardly a choice. From what I've read and heard, the popular pills like Lexapro, Zoloft and all the others in their class makes anxiety that much worse, until they kick in, and even then when they kick in, they cause all types of assorted and sundry problems. So what's left. You would think that in this day and age a person with an anxiety problem could find relief from a pill that will do its job and not wreck havoc.
Has anyone tried Buspar?
There is really not much to bring relief? Or is there?

I take Buspar and it works great! I only take 5 mg, twice daily so far...and my anxiety is just so much better. At first, it did make me a bit tired...so I started out only taking 5 mg at bed time for like two weeks...then I added the 2nd pill and it doesn't make me tired at all now. I also take Cymbalta and Neurontin. Might be my combo...I don't know...but I can do so much more than I used to be able to...
Good luck!
Good luck!

I was on effexor for a couple of years and found it to be a really bad experience. Really bad side effects and then hell to get off. Then I took Buspar and have taken it for several years. I think it is fantastic. In fact its the only med I will take. The one thing I will say / warn beyond this is that I think the generics are crap. I've tried them twice in the time and think they are a real problem. Meaning very weak and not as effective. Fortunately, my doc will write for brand which saves me money. Give this a try. I take 22.5mg per day and am not sure there are no side effects, but think they are worth the good that it does me. Wonderful drug. Very helpful.

I am currently on Lexapro with Klonopin at night. I have been on low dose of Lexapro for 2 weeks today. The Klonopin I have been on over a year. My brother had great success with Buspar. He took it for 5 years. He has really been pushing me to talk to my Dr about it. I have talked to the Dr but she feels at this time Lexapro would be a better medication long term for me. However, she did say we could add Buspar later if the Lexapro proves successful. She also told me that if I don't get the results we are after on Lexapro we could just go straight to Buspar. So, I believe it must be a useful medication.
