Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place, but I didn't know where else to put it. Anyways, Recently I've noticed that sometimes when I mess with the area of my jaw bone right under my right ear it hurts. It's not horrible pain or anything like that, but it is there. At first I was afraid that it was a bone problem (cancer?), but instead it feels like the lymph node there is the culprit. It feels larger then the one on the left side. I'm just recovering from a cold and my mother says that probably has something to do with it, but I'm still scared. Cancer doesn't hurt, right? Could it be the cold? I've had some bad acne lately, could that be it. I was just at the dentist and had that side of my face X-rayed recently, if there was a problem wouldn't the dentist have noticed it? Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?y

Tonsils and adenoids are often affected by allergies and colds. Sometimes I even get a stinging sensation when eating or drinking when mine are suffering.
That area has quite a work load to handle when fighting a foreign invader like viruses and allergens, so sometimes it will get over-loaded and swell up.
I would give it up to a week to see if it gets better. If it does not, you may have a resultant ear or sinus infection. Have your ears or nose felt clogged still?
Drink plenty of fluids because this will help your glands to clear out.
Best of luck!

YOu should listen to your Mom. She is right you know. You are recovering from a cold and your lymph nodes are designed to help clean up the germs that are in your system. As they gather up the germs, they swell up. No, they aren't cancer. Stop worrying about cancer! As the germs are processed out of your body, the swelling goes down. You have alot of lymph nodes or glands in your body. When you have a minute, goggle it and see how many you have. They work to help keep you well.
Take a deep breath. You will get better in a few days... and give your mom some credit, 'k? Us Mom's from Minnesota are really smart!
