I personally am outraged. I worked since I was 15. got married in 85 and son born 88 at the age of 30. he was diagnosed with adhd and at that time we were clueless that schools had to place spec ed kids. I had to quit my job because hubby was hurt on job 3 months after son was born and has been on ssdi since 90. He had MULTIPLE surgeries so he was always in cast and therapy and couldnt watch son. Son got placed in spec ed and got medicated. we wanted another child so I got pregnant in 93 at the age 36 and had amniocentesis. This caused a horrible infection the made our daughter come 16 weeks premature and spend 5 months in hospital and 2 hears on machines. she is 14 now and multiply handicapped. I tried to work for a few years again from 2001 to 2003 but son had a breakdown and then developed a digestive prob which at first they thought was cancer. I quit to take care of him. We got him straightened out and I went back to work part time may 06. I had a midline brainstem stroke 10/06 and immediately filed for ssdi
I was turned down
they told me I didnt have enough points
I worked for years then took care of three handicapped family members and the thanks I got was that i was a few pts shy.
<removed> I was given 28 dollars a month ssi
thats it
daughter collects ssi
hubby collects ssdi and now 28 ssi for him too
there is something VERY wrong with this system !!!!!

How do you not have enough points?? Surely, with as long as you've worked, you've accumulated enough.

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Please try to hang in there as best you can.

Regards,

Ex

If you had enough points when you first became disabled, but haven't worked lately so you don't have enough points "in the past 5 years" because they rolled off, please find a good lawyer who specializes in social security disability cases, get all the medical evidence and records you can from the years your SSDI insurance was in effect, and you have a good chance of getting your SSDI approved from your work history. Good luck!
