So ive been on the depo injection since i was 16, im now 20.

I dont have any bad side effects, after the first few injections my periods stopped.

My doctor recommends i have the implant because of the risk of osteoperosis on the injection.

The doctor says its does the same as the injection, so will my side effects remain the same? Will i get periods again?

Has anyone tried this? Like came off the depo, and went on the implant?

Also, I now have dimples and scar tissue on my bum which i annoying but not the reason i want to change.

My Nurse has told me about the side effects the depo injection can cause in the long run eg. thinning of the bones. Shehas recommended the implant.

I think the implant used in the UK is norplan, im not sure. It does the same as the injection, with the same hormones or whatever is used, but over 3 years.

Hi kristymarie87! I don't know what to really tell you that would be of any help, other than I'm sorry about your dilemma. I'm not sure if periods come back with the implants, I wouldn't think so, but I could be wrong?! I would say, research a little on the 'net about them and I hope others here will know more about this! I'd say if the Dr. recommends the implants, if it will help in the long run and perhaps have less side effects, then maybe go that route?? Good luck and I hope it all turns out well for you.

Hi I was on depo injection for over a year, Then i had the implant (implanon) 68mg Implant. in Aug 07, It last 3 years it is much better than the depo injection as it does not cause bone density, It is a simple injection in your arm to numb the area it is fast and painless, I would reccomend it, Ive had no problems on it and have also been losing weight 12 in 5 weeks, I dont have a period like the depo and no sore breasts or period pains hope this helps
