My daughter is just 5, and has been acting 100% normal. Eating fine, playing fine, not complaining of anything. Well, last Tuesday, I had to take my son's temperature, and since it's one of those new kinds that you run across the forehead and down the side, they both love to get their temperatures checked. So as I did my son's, my daughter asked to have her's taken too. So I did, and it was 99.5, which I thought was a little strange. So being the worrier that I am, I have checked it on and off all week, and it still is running around that. Like I said, she is acting perfectly fine, so I don't get it. I know that 98.6 is just a guideline, I know a person could run a little higher or lower. So seeing that this isn't really even a degree over "normal", should I be concerned at all? I wouldn't have even known if she hadn't asked to have her's checked last week...so maybe it's been this way for a while and I didn't even know. Does anyone else have a kid who's temp does this???

Yes it does vary. I think our ped. said anything under 100 is considered normal. But I know for my children, anything 99 and over would be a fever for them. Their temp tends to run low. It could be normal for your daughter. As long as she is feeling fine I wouldn't worry about it. Are you able to get her temp. with an oral digital thermometer?

I have found those thermometers are not that reliable and tend to be greatly effected by the outside temp. Since it is summer, it probably is just picking up how hot she may be on the outside, and not an internal temp. Can you take it with a digital oral thermometer. That would be more reliable, IMHO. Also, 99.5 isn't really that high, especially in the summertime. It is higher than normal, but I wouldn't worry.

Try to let whatever it is run it's course right now before giving your child any medicines if you have for the fever. The fever is a sign the body is fighting the infection and doing it's job. When you give medicines they only suppress and inhibit this process interfering the the body.
