I went to my dietician and she reinformed me of my numbers....
LDL 204
hdl 64
trigs 116
And i dont know what the other 21 was for. but i was set up for another test on the 7th. she said its better to get "sample" from the arm rather then the finger. and told me to begin eating 2-4 tblspoons of oat bran a day. which i will faithfully. Has anyone tried this?
Also in answer to my other post "im confused" my thyroid was check and came back clear, but i'll probably inquire about that again on the 7th.
This time i will fast before i take the test. the last 1 i didnt and they said that could be why its so high.
But the 1 i took yesterday from home i did "fast" and it measured higher....thats another reason why im confused. Hopefully the oat bran works, because i dont want to have to take meds. If anyone has info on the oatbran please let me know.
thank you,
michelle

The oat bran may possibly help by absorbing some of the cholesterol from the intestine. To what extent it may help, I don't know.

If your doctor feels you need to take something for your cholesterol, I would suggest you ask him about Niaspan(prescription niacin)instead of a statin drug. Also, you really should have your LDL measured. By that I mean that you should have it broken down to determine particle size. Large LDL particle size means that it is less dangerous than mostly small LDL particle size. Niacin, in addition to raising your good HDL cholesterol, can also lower both total cholesterol and LDL, while shifting LDL composition towards that of the more benign larger particle size. I hope this helped.
