My cholesterol was 240 and my doctor put me on Lipitor which worked well and dropped my cholesterol to 200, but I had muscle weakness and pain so I had to go off of the Lipitor. Soon my cholesterol was back up again in the to 240 range. I then tried Zocor and found that it made me nauseated and also pretty well killed my appetite. The appetite part was OK, but the nauseated feeling I could not tolerate. I have no history of heart problems in my family. I have had a stress test with the dye injection. This I seemed to pass OK. I don't know what to do next, and I don't think my doctor does either.

You indicate your total (TC) as 240, but what is probably more important information is your HDL, LDL, and triglyceride numbers. The TC values alone do not appear to be as important as was once thought.

When you had your blood tested, it is highly unlikely that these other values were not also tested for. If you don't have these numebrs, ask your doctor to give them to you or get them for you.

If you post these other numbers, you will hear from regulars here with suggestions and opinions on how they stack up as risk factors and what you might be able to do to modify them towards a more healthy balance.
