donsabi 09-09-2003, 02:49 PM Does anybody have any information on coconut oil and cholesterol or heart disease? Thanks. Sponsor zip2play 09-12-2003, 09:27 AM I've seen people on one of my Atkins boards rave avout it. But the best I can find are reports that are tightly tied to SELLERS of the VERY expensive oils. Palm and Coconut oil are very nearly fully saturated oils and until recently were condemned by nutritionists. So basically it comes down to "who do you trust." For me it was an easy choice....I WON'T pay $10 for a pint of cooking oil...I'm too cheap! joslin 09-12-2003, 10:54 AM coconut oil or even coconut helps to increase HDL. But it also increases LDL. hdl increase in more than ldl in % terms. That doesn't mean it is good. Boomer0046 10-06-2003, 04:53 PM Don't bother with the coconut oil. We already went there and it is a RIP OFF! The whole thing got started with a Woman's magazine article. The health food stores made a "killing" money wise and now the "temporary insainity" is over. It does not work and you will see over the next few months - you won't hear or see a word about it! Only the things that really work are going to be talked about in an "on-going" basis. Put the word Octacosanol" into your yahoo search and read about that. I am on it now and have another blood test in November. I can't wait to see if Octacosanol works. Hope this helps! Curly Chef 10-06-2003, 06:00 PM I'd say, better to eat the coconuts. In fact, young Thai coconuts have less fat than the old brown hairy ones. The water is far better, much sweeter and very refreshing. It was reported that the water was used as a blood transfusion as it contains many of the same properties as human plasma. I used to crack open the top of a young coconut and put a straw in, and drink the refreshing water after working out. I live somewhere where the coconuts are not as affordable, so I stopped that luxury! |
