View Full Version : No help from Omega 3

I started taking a fish oil supplement about 6 weeks ago had my cholesterol checked a week ago and my HDL fell 2 pts. It went from 41 to 39. I had the understanding that it was supposed to raise your HDL levels. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I am continuing to take Omega 3, with the hope that my HDL's will maybe be higher at my next check up on a few months.

jsachs,
Make sure you are getting the 1000 mg total Omega-3's (DHA+EPA).
Why not add a Tbsp of granular lecithin to your daily regimen.

(Perhaps the Omega-3's take a bit longer to work; perhaps one of the readings was off?)
You'll know more after the next test.

What I got was a HUGE decrease in LDL from taking Lipitor. But my HDL levels only marginally improved from 29 to 35.
Adding Fish oils and lecithin to the statin didn't lower the LDL's any further but skyrocketed the HDLs to 55. So for me the combination: Lipitor, fish oil, and lecithin is a winner.

Delrae,
What were the effects of the Omega-3's specifically on your HDL's?
