For someone with the genetics for high cholesterol, to eat healthy and still have high cholesterol, or even worse... to make the # actually go higher than if you were eating all bad foods? It just seems that in 2 months of eating healthy, to eating healthier, made my total cholesterol # go up by a few points:

June's NON FASTING blood test: 226
August's NON FASTING blood test: 237

I know it's not much of an increase but it still makes me wonder.

How much fat/saturated fat/cholesterol should I be getting a day?

First of all I'm not understanding why you are so worried about the numbers. They are very good.

As for recommended fat, saturated fat and cholesterol:

People without CAD, diabetes or high LDL:
total fat- 30% of total calories or less
saturated fat- less than 10% of total calories
cholesterol- less than 300mg per day

People with CAD, diabetes or high LDL:
total fat- 25 to 35% of total calories
saturated fat- less than 7% of total calories
cholesterol- less than 200mg per day

These are the American Heart Association recommendations.

I am worried because my recent non-fasting cholesterol check was 237, which means it may be about 260 total right now. I have it checked tomorrow and should have the actual total # by Thursday or Friday. I am a natural worry wart anyways ;)

Arizona73 gave you very good information when you posted your numbers in an earlier post. With an HDL of 80 and trigs 32 the higher total cholesterol is not that concerning.
To lower your total cholesterol and LDL eat foods low in saturated fats. You have to be good at reading food labels. You should also avoid transfats. They are not always clearly listed on the food labels, but if all the fats listed do not add up to the total fat the difference is likely transfat. Are you eating whole grains? Watch your alchohol intake as well.

Yeah, I eat whole wheat bread for sandwiches :) and I do not drink alcohol. Yeah, Arizona gave me some great info. I am just going to wait to get my cholesterol reading for this year. Thank you again for your reply (((HUGS)))
