I have been taking Pravachol 40mg about 1 1/2 months now. I went to the doctor last week and my cholestrol has came down some, but not my tricyl. (They actually went up.) He told me to start taking Lopid once a day for a month and have a re-check. Does anyone know what the side-effects for Lopid are? I get sick on my stomach very easy and I heard that was one of the side-effects. I have also heard that you shouldn't take both of these drugs at the same time, is that true? Thanks for any info.

Hi tara,
Lopid is definitely not an inocuous drug and you're right...it can cause big time problems with pravachol as well as severe gastointestinal problems all on its own.
Your MD should have been up on this: http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/lop1234.htm
Try lowering your carbs to get the triglycerfides down. It can work wonders.

zip2play,
Thank you so much for your time. I read the article and I think I will just try and lower my tric. on my own. Thanks Again!!

believe it or not there are times when gemfibrozil is prescribed along with normal cholesterol reducing drugs.

when lopid and cholesterol drugs are prescribed together, your doctor better be doing labs quite often tho....
