i have been told my heart is only working at 54% infraction rate unsure what this mean in the bigger picture, or if there is a bigger picture. can anyone help enlighten me.

What you might have been told was that your EJECTION FRACTION rate (not infraction rate) was 54%. This number usually refers to the fraction of blood pumped from the left ventricle of the heart, reflecting its efficiency. 55% and over are considered normal. So based on that number alone your are in that ballpark. Are you having any symptoms? What did your doctor say?

I have congestive heart failure and my ejection fraction at the time on diagnosis was only 10%. Now after medication and what not I have moved it up to 18%. Still very under normal. From what my cardiologist has told me a "normal" persons EJ is anywhere between 50 adn 60% so your is pumping out blood as it should.

My brother-in-law just called me from Mississippi. He is in the hospital at this time. He said that he had a heart cath performed and the Dr told him that his heart infraction rate was 56. He has high blood pressure, over weight, and works in a very stressfull job. Could someone be so kind to explain to me in layman terms what does the 56% heart infraction mean. Thank you for you help. The ejection fraction refers to how well the heart is pumping blood.
It refers to the amount of blood pumped from the left ventricle out into the body.
Healthy individuals typically have ejection fractions of 0.55 or greater. However, normal values depend upon the what method is being used to calculate the ejection fraction. Damage to the muscle of the heart , such as that sustained during a heart attack or in cardiomyopathy, impairs the heart's ability to eject blood and therefore reduces ejection fraction. This reduction in the ejection fraction can manifest itself clinically as heart failure.
