I am 25 and i have been having chest pain since feb 2008. that is 5 months. They thought it was panic attacks, then they said it was asthma. Now i am on meds for asthma, but I still have chest pains and pressure. I have recently started having muscle spasm, and cramps like charlie horses but they are in my back, sides, hands, feet, arms, and legs. I have also started having joint pain, like arthritis . I have had ekg's that have came out normal, blood test that are all normal, an arthritis test that was normal. Has anyone had these symptoms before and/or know what it might be?

Sounds like you could be suffering with anxiety. I know anxiety can bring on chest pain as well as a whole lot of other body symptoms. Try to relax. You are covering your bases by seeing a doctor.

I had this too and they sent me for every heart test in the book. I'm also in my twenties. Probably anxiety as they said mine was. You might look into Acid Reflux too if you have gastro symptoms. Gallbladder can also present itself as chest pain - but you would have other symptoms too.

I have seen a doctor that said panic and anxiety, then they ruled it to be asthma. I have tried different anti depressants to control the panic/anxiety (before they ruled it asthma) and none of them have worked, all they do is make me depressed which I was not depressed to begin with. My doc is now weening me off of the anti depressants and gives me colonapan .5 as needed for anxiety. his way of as needed is when needed is when i am so shook up i can't think. but anyway even when i take the colonapan it doesn't make the chest pain go away.

They had also given me some asthma meds. I never really took them - I didn't feel like I couldn't breath. The anxiety meds made me more anxious. I couldn't take those either. I understand that.

You can get a hernia there. It will cause chest pain. It's not serious at all, just uncomfortable. I had a baruim swallow x-ray which is just where you swallow real thick mylanta type liquid and they take x-rays.

Do you have any gasto symptoms like tenderness under the ribs?

You can also just have pain in your chest muscles or an inflammation of the chest wall called plueresy. * that's probably spelled wrong - that's not serious either, just hurts and they give you anti-inflammatories to bring it down. My brother is doc and they had someone in the ER once who thought he was having a heart attack. I thought he was too because he was holding his chest and couldn't breath. It was just pluresy. It must hurt pretty bad.

I have had pluisy before and this is not it, but yes it feels like someone is stabbing you. I also know i do have asthma, I have for years just not enough to take meds, but after 8 years of smoking i have had to start taking them. I am on 3 asthma meds and they do help when i can't breathe, but this something that flairs even when I am not having an asthma attack. I have been reading other post and with the muscle and joint pain I have I am thinking about talking to my doc about fibromyalgia. I just think I am too young to be taking the 8 pills I am on a day and it not helping the pain and pressure that I am feeling.

Another reason I am asking all of this is my mother had open heart surgery at 42 with 95% blockages. They did every test in the world on her and she past with flying colors. Until they cathe her and she has open heart the next morning. Plus I have a 30 year old cousin that has already had a heart attack. My aunt's and uncle have heart problem. Another cousin was born with a hole in her heart, and my grandfather died at about 45 from a heart attack. The doctors say I am too young for heart Problems but with family history, my smoking, and that i am about 25 lbs over weight. I think they should look more at my heart to make me feel better that it is anxiety and not my heart. I might be young but so was my cousin at 30 when she had her first heart attack.

It's probably something not life threatening - but can you switch docs? My grandfather died young with a heart attack and I was just like you. Afraid if was "something they weren't seeing". It would probably ease your mind to just let them do another test. Ask them to do a holter monitor - the kind you take home for two weeks and it records your heart. It's a portable EKG. You can also have an echocardiogram or a stress test.

While I am clueless compared to my brother, but I can tell you that if your doc ran a cardiac blood panel on you and it was all normal that the chances of it being your heart decrease GREATLY.

It's amazing what they can do with blood work!

Yeah I have seen a theripist, a Sycologist, the er about 3-4 times this year, my family doctor, and talked to my mother who is a RN. But I will talk to them about the ekg thing, If nothing else it might be my worrying about my heart that is bringing on anxiety and causing all of this, but i just have a feeling that something else is wrong cause the pressure in my chest never goes away. And the fact I feel crummy all the time.

Pressure could be a hernia. Guys are especially easy to get them because they lift heavy things. You can get a hitial hernia in the area of your chest. It's not a big deal - it's just uncomfortable.

God bless and fell better soon!
