My doc called me Friday night and told me that my viral load came back negative for HIV. He tested me because I had an unprotected experience about 6 weeks ago, followed by a false positive mono test. I am trying to put this all behind me now.... am I safe to do so? Doesnt the RNA test for any HIV in your blood? So if mine is negative, I am okay right? He has not told me much about this test... and I don't want to do too much searching online, since there seems to be so much misinformation out there... any insight would be great...

i would assume the test was accurate, but if it were mw i'd test again in about 4 months, just to be safe. but thats really up to you. just please be more careful next time. make sure you always carry protection. i wouldn't be searching the internet too much either.... to me it does seem theres ALOT of false info out there. but thats just my opinion. i am glad everything came back negative for you. although hiv/aids is the most deadly (as far as i know anyway. guess there could be somnething else out there that i haven't heard about yet) there are other diseases out there. please protect yourself at all times. take care of yourself, and i'll keep you in my prayers. God bless! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm HIV+. Are you sure your doctor gave you a viral load test? Viral load shows how much virus is in your body but it can only detect down to 20 copies per million in the best test. Your doctor should be giving you a test for HIV antibodies. Please ask your doctor about which test he gave you. You can be HIV+ and a viral load test shows that the virus is undetectable. Mine has been undetectable since 1998, but I still have HIV and can give it to others.
