My doctor didn't seem concerned with these results since my ratio is 3.8. Should I be concerned?
Cholesterol 269 H
Triglyceride 234 H
HDL 70
LDL 152 H
VLDL 47

I have hypercalcemia (not sure of the reason) and Hashimotos (Hypo T)

Any insight would be appreciated.

My numbers are similar to yours. My ratio is 4.8. I have tried to figure out what this means. Can't find an answer on ratios. Anyway, your numbers are high like mine are and I have been told on many occasions to take medication. I have fought it, but I'm starting to worry as I'm 59 and have had this a while. But I'd like to know about ratio's.

hopalong_too,

Here are your ratio breakdowns:

LDL/HDL--> 152/70 = 2.17/1 (Should be < 3.0)

TC/HDL --> 260/70 = 3.84/1 (Should be <4.0)

Your LDL/HDL looks pretty good but your TC/HDL is borderline. The number that is helping you the most is obviously the HDL of 70. However I would try and lower your triglycerides which are up there at 234. Your total cholesterol is up there also at 269 but the pundits will say that the TC number doesn't matter that much.

As far as the hypercalcemia goes, if you have had it for awhile and have done nothing, I would get a doctor's diagnosis on that. If left unchecked it can lead to other disease. Not sure how this affects your cholesterol levels.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have had the hypercalcemia for a while. Serum calcium is 10.5 (8.5-10.5) and Ionized calcium is 1.41 (1.17-1.32) and PTH is inappropriately normal. Vitamin D was low 19.9 (40-100) and still low at 27 after 50,000IU once a week for 3 months. I am trying to get a firm diagnosis for hyperparathyroidism os that I can have this taken care of but the doctor is waffling.
