How many pounds is a baby recommended to weigh before being able to leave the hospital? I've heard 5 pounds is this true?

I don't know if there is an exact weight like there used to be but I do know that my daughter was born 6 weeks early and we took her home weighing exactly 4 pounds. Does your child weigh less than 5 pounds?

It depends on the hospital's policy ....that and of course the condition of the baby are all taken into consideration.

my twins were born at 30 weeks and in order for them to be discharged they had to maintain body temp, weight and be able to eat a certain amount..in that being said month later they were discharged weighing between 4-5 lbs....so I guess it depends on the hospital etc...or the conditon of baby

Its not based on weight at all, though it used to be. The 3 regulations are that they must be maintaining their weight, boy temperature and blood sugars. My son was 4lbs 6oz at birth and 4lbs 9oz when he came home 11 days later.

My twins came home weighing roughly 4.5lbs each. Their goal was maintaining body temperature, and eating at least 45cc's from the bottle.
