Im reading that the reflux can sometimes be attributed to an allergy. While Enamil AR and Similac Sensitive RS worked for a short time, she is back to spitting up. Im not considering trying Lactofree or possibly Prosobee (even though she has spit up on Isomil and milk based before, I will try anything at this point). Im wondering if you Peds have recommended any other formulas for reflux. I know Alimentum is hypoallergenic, but I think she spit that one up because it wasnt heavy enough....Any thoughts?

Hi Gr8,

We use Nutramigen (an Enfamil product that is hypoallergenic and very $$$). When he goes through spit up phases, we add a bit of rice cereal; approximately one half of the Nutramigen scoop per 2 oz. of formula. It works pretty well.

Here is another hint: If you end up having to use one of the expensive formulas, ask your doc. for samples. We get a lot from the ped's. office.

Good luck,

Jen

My son had HORRIBLE reflux, which he SEEMS to have finally outgrown, at 13 months (crossing fingers). He was on Zantac for the pain, and we used Thick It in all his bottles to thicken up his formula. He is on Nutramigen, which is hypo-allergenic. It is thinner, but you can thicken it. There's no reason whatsoever to continue to feed something that is making your child sick when you can use another product to achieve the same thickness that you get with the AR. Good luck.
