I just want to remind everyone to be careful about going out in extremely hot weather and bad air days. I learned the hard way yesterday.
I waited until early evening to venture out, thinking that I would have avoided the danger. I was wrong. After just a few minutes I had a severe attack.
I wound up in the ER and thought I was the only asthmatic foolish enough to go out in the heat. I was surprised to find 4 other asthmatics already there.
The nurse who checked me in said that they had been coming in all day. One poor fellow had to be intubated.
So, since I may not be the only asthmatic to try to press his luck, I would like to relay my experience so you don't. It was surprising at how quickly the attack happened.
I am now on pred again and a couple of days of neb treatments every 4 hours...then I get to go in and get lectured by my pulm. I don't look forward to it but I have it coming. With all this I was LUCKY. It could have been much worse.
So please be careful this time of year and stay in on dangerously hot days or bad air days.
Be well,
Tom

So please

Tom,
Thanks for the reminder. You certainly learned a hard lesson here. I wish you well in your recouperation.

I've had bad air in my area for going on 3 weeks now. Unfortunately, I've had to spend most of my summer indoors. I did the Prednisone thing at the beginning of the month before we were "officially" in a red air warning. Around here, the lack of rain for over a month has kept the air particles down low.

Wishing you well,
MR
