Hi everyone,
I wonder if someone can tell what happens when you are told you have three tumours one in one lung and two in the other. My mum was told last night that all three tumours are growing and she needs chemotherapy. We are waiting for the oncology department to send for mum to explain what happens from here on in. Has anyone been in the situation waiting, can you tell me if she has to have chemo what actually happens? Is it once a week once a day or once a month, will she be very sick? Will she lose her hair? Her reaction was that she didnt want chemo because she would be sicker than she is now. She feels that with cancer in both lungs she may not live long and is being ill all the time what she wants? We are in limbo at the moment until we hear from the oncologist. Comments appreciated please.

My dad had tumors in both lungs, too. If we had to do it again, we would never have had him had chemo. It took away his hair and his health. I am so sorry to be pessimistic, but if you read the data, it is not very good for long term for you mum. If I were you, I would enjoy your mom and have her enjoy her last days. Chemo takes away anything good that they might have had.

Thanks joani
Can I ask, how long did your dad suffer from finding out? I agree with you that she should enjoy her days now before she gets really poorly.

I agree also. Mother in law had chemo at 76 and it was worse than the cancer.............love her and be with her as long as you can....

I'm sitting on the fence on this one. With my Mom, she was sick from the chemo but it prolonged her life, and her symptoms from the chemo didn't last long. The chemo gave her quantity, the radiation gave her quality. Without the chemo my Mom would have passed away after 3 weeks rather than the 10 months. I'd definitely talk to the oncologist and decide with him/her as well as your Mom.
