Babyshan, you said that the doctor said that lymph nodes will become enlarged with no other symptoms. Well I was rubbing my neck and under my chin i felt a little bump. The more I rubbed the bigger it got until finally it was sore. When I quit touching it, it went down in a few days. Also when I feel around in my neck I can feel a few lymph nodes, one on the side of my neck, one at the bottom and on under my chin. They are not sore and they move when I touch them. Does this sound like what you were talking about? I can not feel any under my arms. I can feel some bumps around my groin area, but they are small like the ones in my neck.

No, sometimes when we have infections our lymph nodes get larger and in a few cases they never go down. I have one on the back of my neck that never went back down, it is squishy and I can move it aound but it is not sore. My mom has near her ear that does the same. Once and a while if we are stressed or coming down with a cold it will swell up, but for the most part it is just chillin there. We have both had our checked out and the docs were not concerned as long as it is not permanently swollen their is no need to worry. I wouldnt worry about soemthing that is just kinda lingering there. Have it checked to be sure but I am pretty confident it is not HIV related. I forgot to emntion one thing about the swollen glands that I should have mentioned, besides them not really accompanying anything major, they do often come witha fever when they are infectious related. Otherwise, they are just your bodys normal reaction to the many iriitants it comes in contact with everyday.

When I went to the doc my temp was 99 degrees. He said that they do not even count that as a fever. I was tested about 4 1/2 months after my exposure. I gave unprotected oral sex to a female. I had brushed my teeth about an hour after I did that too. The test came back negative. My doc said I could test after a year if I wanted to.

trust me johnblue, your absolutely fine!!!, the doc is right they really dont count that as having a fever, alot of these websites will tell yuo that a lowgrade fever is a sign, however, AIDS is a new disese and if their theory is correct and the asymptomatic period lasts 8-10 years on average w/out meds then I am sure most of the symptoms ppl attribute to AIDS are just symptoms that normal ppl get everyday.It would make sense considering that their imune systems have yet to be compromised by the disease early on. Alot of ppl worry because the media makes you worry and not really because they have valid reaosn to. Most ppl are negative, and those that are positive nine out of ten times are in a high risk group, or sleep with someone who is. This is not a disease of the majortiy, despite what the mass media likes to advertise. However, if they didnt ppl would prob be much more likely to sleep with anything and shoot anything for that matetr. As a woman with aids I honestly dont feel the u are infected the the virus. However the lumps that u are feeling are probably just cysts. If your lymph nodes become so swollen and the pain dosnt go away then that is when u need to seek medical attention. hey its nice to have someone on here with a first hand view (not that the situation is a good one) my ? is when you say they get swollen and dont go away, what exactly does that mean, i mean ppl with sinus probs often have swollen glands that swell for a day or so and then go back down. How did you determine that your particular swelling was HIV related? I know just about all you can know without being positive but I was kinda wondering about this ? myself because swollen glands seem to be such a minute sign of infection b/c they are related to so many other conditions. I wen to teh doc with swollen glands that had persisted on and off for a few months and my doc evaluated me and told me it was related to my sinus's being inflamed. However, it still made me nervous enoguh in the beginning to be tested for the virus (negative thank god) it wasnt until I started talking to my boss who actually was my dads infetious disease doc when he was diagnoses full blown AIDS in 92 (died in early 93)that I realized the rate of transmission was much less common as the media had potrayed it to be. im sorry about your diangosis and hope you are taking good care of yourself. Babyshan, I just want to ask about your comments that 99 degrees is not fever. My temperature normally ranges from 36.3-26.5 degrees Celcius (lower in the morning and higher in the evening). There was a week when it ranged from 36.5-37.0 degrees Celcius.

Doctors said it does not count as fever and ruled out HIV infection. Any comments on this.

hey i wanna offer all the help i can, but im not a doctor, i just work for one. LOL, um..... well its not really a fever, because all bodys overheat soemtimes, I mean im sure we have all had plenty of 99 degree fevers, we just had no reason to be paranoid about it at the time, so we probably just didnt notice. I personally call it the psychological sense throry. When ppl are blind they often are more in touch with their sense of hearing then most because they tap into it, so they can depend on it. Its kinda the same thing with all those who have/are worrying about HIV. we are tappin g into our sense of touch/feeling and looking for every symptom or everything that seems irregular with our bodys and then freaking out about it. Most of these things are prob just normal things we have everyday, but now we are aware of them. Trust your doc, you talked about the possibility and he probably has much moe knowledge then any of us have. If you wanna test for sure, just suggest an HIV test and when you get your neg result youll be fine!

On your explanation, may I know then, what kind of temperature elevation should we be concerned about HIV infection? There may not be hard and fast rules, but I suppose there may be a MINIMUM kind of temperature elevation in most people where fever is a symptom.

I've read definition of fever as >37.5°C and in some websites >37.8°C which are 0.5°C and 0.8°C above average body temperature. Obviously it should not apply to me as my body temperature is typically low.Does it mean that a small elevation of 0.2°C is not likely to be due to HIV?

stop worrying (lol) you dont have HIV, however me telling you what is and isnt a fever is not gonna change the way you feel and it isnt gonna make you think you are negative either. the only thing that has a good chance of making you sure you are negative is to test for the virus. then move on, or come here and help others who are going through what your going through. a fever could mean a great many things, even if you had one. as far as the lymph nodes they accompany a fever usually. when i get them from sinusitis they normally come with no fever. they just kinda get sore and then after i destress and relax they go down. you are fine and you dont have HIV, but test so you can start believing it.

babyshan, I think you mixed me up with JohnBlue. we're different persons. I'm not the one with 99 degrees temperature. Would really appreciate it if you could comment on my temperature.

My two lymph nodes are swollen under my chin, After reading here I though may be because of touching it. But after 7th week a gland (I am not sure what kind of gland it is just behind the ear) got swollen with a burning/hurting sensation. I could feel it. Then the right side is getting same sensation on 8th week and little bit swollen too. Is it because of I am stressing out too much?? I don't have any fever or anything except I feel I have something on my tongue, white, I am not sure it is or not but there is a small bump on my upper jaw, Which I remember I had before also time to time.
When I talk to the lady (Aferican american) she says she does not have anything, I am not sure why I feel so much why she does not feel like that... She does not have any diohrrea, bump or rash or anything except she had 2 times fever for one day in last 4 months.
Plus she says, She would feel if something was wrong with her body. What the hell, Why can not she feel, I never had these swollen gland (As I remember, except for the ear one for sometimes).
Why is she so confident and does not go for checkup. I can't convince here as she has left the city. Now she says she is trying to loose weight and applying for job in UK, I don't know what to do. I can't even talk to her as she does not give me her phone number. She says she does not have money as it is new job and I have lots of expenses, I can't call you everyday. I said well give your number which she does not...

i had to respond because i noticed that everyone freaks out over swollen glands all the time. as i've told lauren w, swellon glands in the neck area are common. the mouth and throat are very vulnerable to any bacteria/virus, etc. it is normal for a healthy person to experience swelling in the throat area. also, you said you had a white spot on your tongue, well this is normal too. i have had recurrent swollen neck glands since i've been a teenager, i am also a social smoker, plus my tongue will often show a white spot or cut and then it would go away, i am hiv -ive, just got results yesterday. you need to understand that most things that go on with the body are not hiv related and is a normal reaction caused by normal things. stop worrying about about these glands and white spot on your tongue. also, if you did oral on this girl, from the research i've read, i think this is definitely low riskeven assuming she was infected. also, if you've gotten tested and came out ok, what the heck are you worrying about?! your driving yourself insane, stop worrying...your ok.

Hello Tinker300, I might add a little to this conversation, I have posted a couple of messages about my current condition...I had swollen neck glands (both sides) for about 3 weeks, they looked like rows of very small peas and it was only noticeable when I stretched my neck long enough (turning it). My armpits hurt a lot, and my groin nodes, although not very swollen were indeed hard and hurt like hell, (I could not walk at times cause I felt pain).

After those 3 weeks My neck nodes went back down, and my groin and armpits dont hurt anymore. But a week later my right neck node is starting to swell a bit again (the left one is not). So I'm very anxious, also ths worries me cause I have not been able to sleep well. My eyes are still with floaters and sometimes blurry, and I'm thinking that probably there is not much hope for me. Only test will tell.

I know, I 've very little knowledge but from my over a month experience I can say that go away thing gives me hope 'coz if the swollen are coz of HIV it won't go away even you take antibiotics. May be all this new set of node is because of too much worry and stress. Keep posting reply and your test results please.

hi jag2k, definitely get tested, that's the only way 2 b 100% certain. i did it, u can 2. it sounds as if u r actually searching for more swollen nodes, if u r, then u will end up causing them to react. this could mean anything...like i said, GET TESTED! u need to put yourself at ease, 1 way or another. sorry ngatta, i guess i kinda tied in my response to you and joe blue. your risk was so minimal, i hate the cdc for freaking out every hetero human being into thinking they are infected. your ok, i swear you dont have HIV your fever, is not a fever. Its the body heating up in response to stress. calm down or you will end up dead from a major stress attack. I know it is really scary but you have to trust me on this, you dont have HIV. test for certain but I am almost certain that you dont have it. you know what really reassured me that I was negative, not the doctor telling me I was fine, not coming here for reassurance, it was the combination of my mom who knows all there is to know and the test that finally chilled me into knowing i was fine. maybe you need that same assurance that you to are negative and ok. good luck but remember NEGATIVE will be your outcome!!!

Please reply, I got tested after 4 weeks and after 8 weeks and the test came back -ve. I have 2 swollen glands under my chin, I am not sure it is because of rubbing or why it showed up at first place coz I never had one. Then one day I felt burning/pain under my right ear(2 days before my 8 weeks test) and it got elevated a bit which in not suppressed yet So I decided to get tested again and it came back -ve.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THESE RESULTS IN THIS SCENARIO? God forbid had it been something it would have showed up. I have been having this swollen node since week 4th, (The same day I went for my 4th week test). Please please reply it has been very depressing and grilling period of my life and I will never ever forget this.
