I was wondering if you guys have any advice. I will have to travel 3 weeks after bunion surgery. The day involves 2 flights a lay over and a college football game. The flights are only about an hour long each so I guess during the layover I can elevate my foot. My big concern is that the parking area for the game is about a mile from the stadium. Will the dr give me a temo handicap sticker to use during my recovery? Any help anyone can give for traveling would be appreciated. Thanks.

that is a tough question. only your dr can tell you what to do. what kind of shoe are you wearing?

I got a temporary parking placard for my foot surgery. I filled out a form online at the state transportation site and had it signed/faxed by my Dr. It still took 3 weeks to process so I would do it right away! Maybe you can go down to a DMV office and get one locally? In MT, they come from the prison ......really....
I didn't have bunion surgery - a bone graft from knee to foot - but I went to a BB game 3 weeks after surgery and brought a pillow to put my foot up on the bleachers!

hi dismama...my doc told me not to fly after my bunion surgery, but since it will be 3 weeks after you may be ok. listen to your doctor. at 3 weeks my pin came out and they said i could weight bear to whatever is comfortable. i wasnt quite sure what that meant so i still didnt use the toe until 5 weeks. you will probably want to bring a crutch or cane anyway for stability, and it will help in climbing the bleachers at the ball game. perhaps one of those ice paks that you squeeze to activate could be used between flights in case of swelling. have a good trip, good luck with the surgery. i am glad i stayed off the foot, didnt do chores, my dad cooked the first week. when i got home i did one shopping trip, and a friend carried my groceries up a flight of stairs for me. i frequently iced the foot first two weeks anyway, then less often third week. kept it elevated on pillows first 10 days, then often during next week and it is healing great. if you are going to ball game with someone, maybe they could park the car after leaving you at the gate? good luck, have a fun trip and hope the surgery goes well. I would be asking my dr for some kind of note so you can park closer. If you call the stadium ahead of time maybe they can have a wheelchair for you. I know you can do that at airports. I am at 2 wks after my bunion surgery and i know how you feel. That will be to far for you to go. Best of luck
