I had heard somewhere that the odds of contracting (as a male) HIV from an infected female via unprotected vaginal intercourse was around 1:10,000. Is this true?

I wouldnt exactly say that. The chances of you catching HIV from a female is about .3% with each contact. Still its dumb to risk and you never know when you will have some bad luck and become that .3%.
