Several months ago I had an experience with a massage-sex worker. To be specific, she manually masturbated me. While she was doing this, she inserted her finger into my rectum. I had noticed that she was masturbating herself or at least applying lubricant to herself. I was pretty itchy after the encounter, went to the doctor about 4 days later, who tested me for STDs (including gonnorhea, chlamidya, and syphilis). I had subsequent follow-up testing, including HIV and HBV at week 12.

In the meantime, I had unprotected sex with a steady girlfriend. After approximately 6-7 weeks, she had developed pink eye followed by a rash on her chest and pain in her shoulder area. She was tested for HIV and HBV almost immediately (7-8 weeks after our last sexual encounter).

My first question is, have I allowed enough time 12 weeks to pass to detect whether or not I have been infected? I have also had another test performed approximately two weeks later (almost week 14) still waiting for the results.

I would also like to know if the symptoms my girlfriend is experiencing are common?

I think you are at very low risk of being infected from that encounter, though it's probably not impossible. I'm assuming since your girlfriend got a test you were honest about what you did. I think that is the most important part. I don't know if this will be comforting or not, but my friend has been positive for 6 yrs and her only symptoms, 3 mo after infection, were fever of 104 and strep throat. I think her symptoms could be caused by something else, but you will only know for sure with continuing to follow up with dr's. Since you had a test 12 wks after your encounter I'm sure you are fine. Once again I am not a Dr, so my opinion is just that.
