Hi all
My doc put me on Lyrica afew weeks ago and the first week was amazing! No pain what so ever.
The second week i went up on them as my back was giving me alot of jip.
Now the third week i am up on them again.
I dont want to go up any more on them as i am getting blurred fision at times, short term memory loss, headaches and generally feeling disorientated.
So i am thinking of coming off them completely as they arent helping with my pain.
Has anyone had these sort of side effects from taking Lyrica?
Many thanks

I'm confused as to whether the Lyrica is helping your pain or not. You said the first week it was helping your pain and then you increased it the 2nd & 3rd week. At what point did you start getting the blurred vision? It could be that the the dose is too high for you. You could decrease it until you don't experience the blurred vision. Most people need to stay on it for at least a week to determine how much pain relief they do get. Everyone is different and is affected by this med differently. However, drowsiness, blurry vision, dizziness, & "drunk" feeling are the main side effects.
I am on Lyrica and take 600mg/day and it helps me out alot just to let you know.

I am on Lyrica and love it. Its much easier for me to work and live than when I took Neurontin or Gabapentin. My family calls Neurontin "moron-tin" since I was so loopy on it.
I take 75mg in the morning since I have a long day ahead of me. I take 150 mg in the evening after dinner if I am not going anywhere, or wait and take it at bedtime.
I hope you can find the level that works for you.
After the first week of being pain free did you increase your activity, but doen on any other pain meds or anything else different? I knwo when I am having a pain free day I tend to try and get as much done as I can (which as we all know lands us right back in pain!).

I was on Lyrica a few months ago and like you, the first week was a DREAM. I was pain free and could not believe how good I felt. Than BAMMM, all my pain came back. I increased to the max dosage and had to stop taking it because it really wasn;t helping much with the pain and it made me so darn tired (i have two young kids at home to care for). I never really understood why it worked so well the first week then it stopped working.
I am currently on Neurontin and this doesn't make me as tired. It is helping somewhat with my pain, but only a bit.
Good luck!

When my doc starts me out on a new med or changes a dose of an existing one, he asks that I try to give it about 2-3 months before I make a decision as to whether it is helping or not. Of course, if I have any type of dangerous side effect, then I stop taking it immediately.
I have to wonder why your doc increased your dose so rapidly. Even if you were still having some pain flares after starting the initial dose, maybe it would have been best to give it a bit longer. Meds are all different and what works for one, may not work for another. It's possible that your body just didn't know what to do with the rapid increase so it just didn't react at all.
My suggestion would be to go back to your origional dose and give it some added time. Our bodies have to adjust to anything new that we put in them and usually that takes a while. Also, I don't believe there is a med out there that takes away all of the pain. (especially nerve pain) If you are expecting to be 100% pain free on any med, I am afraid you might be disappointed with each one you try. If a doc is telling you that any med will take away all of your pain, he/she is doing you a huge disservice.
My doc and many of the docs whose patients are members here, have said from the beginning, that a reasonable expectation for pain relief is about a 50% reduction in pain or a relatively steady 5 on the 1-10 pain scale. I know, for me, if I were to take the amount of my meds, that it would take to make me 100% pain free, I would be somewhere near comatose, and that just doesn't add up to any quality of life. Not to mention the myriad of other side effects.
Just my humble opinion. Hope it helps a little. I wish you the best, CMP/MM

I was on Lyrica also and gained weight, just switched over to Topamax and I have every symptom on the printout the pharamacy gave me. Anyone else have this? and how long does it take to go away?

I use Topomax for Migraine prevention and BiPolar Disorder and the one problem I've had from them is Kidney Stones, this side effect is like 1 in 2 million, but I've already had surgery to remove 1 large stone last year, and now I have another stone that my urologist is watching.
