Hi guys,
I know I've been a nuisance to you guys for the past few weeks. But I just can't get this off my mind. Yesterday, I went to see a doctor(a urologist) because I've been experiencing some pains around my groin area, below my belly, my knees were also feeling weak and pains under my armpits. He did a check up on me and told me that I have an inflamed prostate. He said it is quite common for a person who contracted an STD to have inflamation of the prostate. In my case, this was probably due to the gonnorea infection I had about three weeks ago. He also went on to say that when a person contracted an STD, he or any other doctors would assume that the person would have contracted something else (multiple infection) with the STD. It could be the HIV, Hepatitis, etc. I was scared to death when he told me that. Then, I told him about the results of my blood tests which was done on the 5th week and 7th week. He told me that the results were not conclusive at all and it's too early to tell if I have contracted any other form of STD with the Gonnorea bacteria. He said Gonnorea is so easily treatable that it is very uncommon for people to have the Gonnorea bacteria only. Normally people with easily treatable STD, like the Gonnorea will have multiple infection. He said the window period for HIV sometimes could be 6 months to 2 years. He said those who show symtoms within 4 to 6 weeks after contracting the HIV virus are normally "acute cases" or people with weak immune system. When I think back of my possible exposure, I don't know if I contracted the gonnorea bacteria from the unprotected sex with the one night stand on the 5th of March or from the unprotected oral sex from the escort girl(but protected penetration) on the 3rd of April. I have a friend who had unprotected sex with the "one night stand" a month before and also on the day I slept with her(same girl). I guess he slept with her at least 4 times(unprotected). When I asked him if he has any symtoms, he said he is fine and did not experience any symtoms, not even gonnorea. Also, during intercourse with the "one night stand", I notice there were quite a bit of foul smell whitish/yellowish discharge from her vagina. I had the Elisa (HIV1&2) and VDRL test done on the 9th of April and on the 23rd of April. If I contracted the gonnorea bacteria from the one night stand, then I would have tested on the 5th and 7th week after exposure. But if I contracted the gonnorea bacteria from the escort girl, then I would have tested only after about the 6th day and the 20th day after possible exposure. Is it possible to contract the gonnorea bacteria and the HIV virus from the unprotected oral sex I got from the escort girl? I am scared to death now.. I think I'm dying because I might have contracted Gonnorea with something else. Guys, please advice.. What is the likelihood of contracting HIV with the Gonnorea bacteria? Were my blood tests at 5th and 7th weeks or the 9th and 20th day after exposure meaningless? Is it true that only those with weak body immune system show HIV symtoms at the 4 to 6 week period? Is it also possible for people to show symtoms but test negative on the Elisa test? Please advice guys..I am feeling terrible now. It's like all hope is lost and I'm going to die soon..

Dear Golfkaki:

I understand that a doctor telling you that the window period for HIV can be form 6 months to 2 years, must have really upset you, and in fact it should have. Its sad to see how many doctors/healthcare practitioners are so behind regarding information for HIV. I remember a docto who told me I had to wait 3 years to see if I was infected...can you imagine that??? 3 months is already long as it is...think about 3 years, or in your case 2...

A few truths here, Gonorrhea IS curable, so is an inflamed prostate, and it can be caused for a gazillion reasons. That he is attributing a coinfection with Hep or HIV, is NOT realistic. Keep in mind that STDs can facilitate transmission of the virus...BUT, usually those STDs involve ulcers in the genitals, like herpes or syphilis.

If you have tested negative at 3 months from exposure, your odds are extremely tilted towards the fact that you are not infected, and many experts would already say you are HIV negative. The CDC says that 6 months should give you an all-clear.

Last, lets mention yur risk...which was indeed low to start with...a condom was involved, and it was as safe as you could get. Unprotected oral does not commonly tranbsmit the virus. The great IF to this point is....was any of those girls infected?? We dont know, do we??? So why dont think that most likey they were not?? Because one was an escort? It must be hard to understand or believe, but usually those women protect themselves more that the average. Keep that in mind. It would be a different scenario if you already knew one of the was infected...andeven this would make it hard for you to acquire HIV.

Hope the info is useful to you.

Thanks for your response "anyone". Now, if I have contracted gonnorea from the one night stand, then why did my friend who had unprotected sex with her a least 4 times did not contract the gonnorea bacteria from her. He had sex with her a couple of times a month before I slept with her and also on the same day I slept with her. I had the gonnorea symtoms at 31 days after contact with the one night stand and about 2 to 3 days after contact with the escort(unprotected oral but protected sex). Will it be more likely that I contracted Gonnorea from the one night stand rather than the escort or the opposite?

Ok first of all you need to get a different doctor. That is rediculous... Nobody has ever taken two years to test positive. I remember when I got tested the nurse said people should get tested once a year which is wrong too. Ughh these doctors need to get up to date!!! But basically 3 months is good and if your immune system isnt that grest 6 months is conclusive. (it would be rare for it to take up to 6 months).

I am not surprised of the attitude of your doctor. I had also seen some doctors in Malaysia, and I think they were very judgemental and not very helpful. What he said you is stupid, and not even logical.

To answer your questions: you can get gonorrhea from receiving oral sex. You cannot get HIV from receiving oral sex. Gonorrhea is much more infectious than HIV, so it is possible to get gonorrhea and not HIV.

It is possible to show symptoms and test negative if you test before 3 months have elapsed. Nevertheless, a 3 months test would be conclusive and your current tests are already very encouraging (but not completely conclusive). A 3 months test is enough. Some doctors recommend to retest at 6 months, but it is probably uneccessary with current tests. Anyway, it does not make any sense to retest after 6 months. Your doctor is seriously misinformed.

It is not true that only people with weak immune systems will show symptoms between 4 and 6 weeks. This is stupid. Moreover, ARS symptoms appear between 10 and 20 days, if any.

You should really calm down. It is highly unlikely that you are infected. And even if you are, which is highly unlikely, you won't die of it: there are good treatments available now.

LOl Francis, I hadnt even realized you had answered his questions! There are two confirmations from the HIV/AIDS experts LOL http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif!! That your doc is very very uneducated on the subject of infectious disease. Maybe he should attend a seminar LOL.
