I have had acute sinus infection for a year now. Penicilin does not clear it so I think it may be a yeast infection.
I also now have polyps which totally block my nose. Nasonex also does not help. Been on it for 8 months. Yellow goo slowly ooses out.
What can I take to clear this? I have no med. insurance so cannot go the op. route.
Thank you

There's really no such thing as a sinus infection caused by yeast, but there are many bacterial infections that wouldn't respond to penicillin.
Your best bet would be to try the following:
1. A 30 day course of antibiotics - something like Biaxin, or Levaquin that is a broader spectrum antibiotic than penicillin
2. A 10-12 day course of oral prednisone to shrink the polyps in your nose
3. Regular nasal irrigation with a neti pot or sinusrinse bottle before you use the nasonex
4. If needed regular medications for allergies/congestion if they contribute to your sinus symptoms
Do you have a doctor who can help you get the prescriptions for the antibiotics and the prednisone?

not sure if you have any of the chain pharmacies where you live. Some here have free antibiotics. If not, some of the drug companies (check out their websites, or ask the doctor for samples) offer a discount program. Generic Omnicef is what i've been taking.
There are many different things you can use with a neti pot/sinurinse bottle to help dislodge mucous. If you check out the allergies board there is a long thread on upside down irrigation. I'm really only suggesting this because you said you were limited on funds. I haven't tried it more than once though.
Good luck
Getting meds is no problem.
Cannot use a neti pot as one nostril is completely blocked with polyps.
Cannot take Prednisone as I have high blood pressure. Plus other nasty effects.
I will try Biaxin but then I have read on the net that only 5% of sinus infections are cured with antibiotics as it could be yeast infection and not bacterial.
Thank you for all the input.

Two things you might consider. First of all, the information on the net that only 5% of sinus infections are cured with antibiotics is absolutely incorrect. The vast majority of sinus infections are cured with antibiotics (although there's tons of bad information out there that is used to try to sell alternative therapies).
Second, there is not such thing as a sinus infection caused by yeast. Sinus infections can (rarely) be caused by fungus - in that case the discharge is generally very thick, green mucus that often must be removed surgically.
It's most likely that you're dealing with a chronic infection caused by the polyps (which are blocking the normal drainage path from your sinuses). I think getting rid of (or shrinking) the polyps is the only likely solution to your infection.
