About 3 months ago I discovered my tonsils were swollen (The right side more than the left, you can see posterior and anterior).

Well I went to the doctor about, got ears flushed, gave me antibiotics said I was going to be fine. I got cortisone shots. Well after focusing on my tonsils I started realizing that the real bother is in my throat area. I cannot pin point where im feeling it in my throat, but I feel something going every once in a while way back there. Sometimes in my lower throat sometimes in my upper throat, somtimes I can almost touch it by pressing my fingers on my lower front / neck. Its not a pain, but more of heat sensation / tickle. My doctors tell me I need to quit worrying, and Ill be fine, but Ive never had this problem before. Ive taken alot of anti-biotics too!

Its not Tonsillitis, I dont have a cold, I have no idea what its from. I even questioned if Oral sex could be a culprit.

I had the same problem. It lasted for over 6 months with 3-4 rounds of antibodics. I finally was able to get in to see an ENT. He did a scope of my throat and it revealed that my tonsils on the back of my tongue were extremely enlarged. It was due from acid reflux disease. I didn't have heartburn, so I didn't know that I had acid reflux disease. I had to have a tonsillectomy and a shaving of that tonsil (lingual tonsils or tongue tonsil). I found out a few weeks ago that he didn't take enough of it off and it will have to be done again in December. I struggled with this for a long time and still am. Get to an ENT and have them do a scope of your throat. Most ENT's can't do that surgery to the tongue because of the special equipment needed, but someone within your area will have the equipment and will be able to perform the surgery. You have to spend a night in the hospital and you have a higher risk of bleeding with this surgery, but, you do feel better (even if they have to do it again because it is still too big). Good luck and don't give up.

How much did that cost you?!

I received the insurance statement the other day. The doctor's appointments were just my co-pays, but the hospital bill was over $5,000.00. But as of now, I believe it has been worth it. I don't like the idea of having more of the back tonsil removed, and by the way there isn't much about these tonsils on the internet, but if it will finally get rid of the "tickle" in the back of my throat then I'll do it again. My problem was that the tonsil was so enlarged that it was about to cover my windpipe and that wasn't good. It is covering it as much and I'm not getting choked as often, but it is still bothersome, so I'll have it done again.
