Hi everybody, my name is Kelly and I'm 24 years old. A few weeks ago I had a sleep study done which reveled that I have mild sleep apnea. My neurologist said that he doesn't recommend me using a CPAP but he does want me to go see an ear, nose and throat specialists. I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to a ENT for this problem before and what should I expect on the first visit. Thanks for your help!

they will probably do a simple evaluation of your throat and sinuses to see if there are any obstructions causing the sleap apnea. That's good that it's only mild, by bf uses a CPAP. They may send you to get a CT scan of your sinuses which will show the structure of the areas they can't see in the office. good luck!

Thanks for the info wakkochic17! I am hoping that I don't need any surgery. I have heard that some people use a nasal spray at night maybe that would help me since my nose is always stuffy. Thanks again for your help. ;)

wakkochic17, I just had a quick question. A few months ago I had a brain MRI because I have having bad headaches, do you think that any problem with my sinuses would show up on that or is a CT scan different? Thanks for your help.

CT scans are typically used to see the sinuses because they provide better contrast and allow the doctor to see both the bones and the soft tissues, so I'm not sure the MRI would be all that helpful to an ENT.

yes, it does show a different contrast, and also when they do an MRI, if they didn't focus on the Sinus area, they may not have imaging of the whole area of the sinuses. It wouldn't hurt to tell the doc though because they may be interested in reviewing it anyways.
