Has anyone noticed nightmares? Since my dose was increased, I have been having horrific nightmares to the point that hubby can't wake me up. It goes on for over and hour and I am thrashing, crying out for him, and when I wake up I have been sobbing for over 20 minutes until hubby has reassured me and it was a dream.

Hey pepper,
For me it was Neurontin that caused horrible and vivid nightmares.

Hi there diet, I think you might have nightmares after you chasing your cane in the water !!!!.
Must say I havent really noticed nightmares, but what I have noticed and posted in the FM board is like this body jerking. My foot might take a jump or it could be my arm, its like this sensation of falling that you would get the odd time in your sleep. Only I get it about 20 times during the night. Or one big jump of my hold body like someone but jump leads on me. Also i used to suffer alot from the cold, I now find my body temperature is much warmer.
Dont mean to steal your thread but wondering if anyone has come across this body jumping, as it is driving me spare.
I hope the nightmares die down, the one place we go to get sleep and relief is now suddenly at us............... is there an let up !!!
Take care and mind yourself.

Hello Pepper....This is a side effect of all pain meds. They typically happen @ higher doses, or right after increases.....Because you tend to go into a "deeper" sleep.

Hey Pepper, I've never had the nightmares or bizzare dreams with the Oxycontin, but I did have some weird dreams when I took tricyclic anti-depressants, like elavil and imiprimine. I think Ex is on to something too. When you sleep really deeply, it can cause you to have nightmares.
I would also think that just the exhaustion (emotional and physical) you are experiencing right now would make you more susceptible. I'd be surprised, after what you've been through lately, if you didn't have bad dreams!
Maybe a little soft music playing in the bacground in your bedroom would help soothe your subconscious mind. I'm sure it will dissipate soon. Have you ever taken Xanax or Valium? You wouldn't really need a high dose. And they have a relatively short half-life, so they would be out of your system by morning.
Just a thought...... Pleasant dreams honey, CMP/MM

Round 1, I start getting this before I even fall asleep. It happens as my activity slows down in the evening. Do you get real deep achy cramps with it too? I tried to explain to my hubby it is like super bad menstrual cramps in the legs. LOL For some reason, he doesn't understand.

Exec - Shew, thankfully it sounds like I am normal and not losing it! LOL
Is this why they have problems waking me up? Unfortunately, my daughter witnessed this last night. She slept with me because she was asthmatic. My daughter stated that she tried for 51 minutes to wake me up and at times checked to see if I was breathing. Then I began moving my arms and legs all over the places. Kind of scary for a little one. What was weird is I woke up the minute she started having a coughing spell and I would not respond her to shaking me or talking to me. Must of been those Mommy natural instincts to know she needed a breathing treatment.
I have been doing it to hubby all week and he did not notice any breathing issues.

wow that is pretty scary your sobbing and crying like that. I would talk to your Dr that is not a good scene at all. Maybe once your on the new dose for a bit longer it will settle down but in the mean time maybe you need a benzo before bed to calm you down. to not be able to be woken up sounds very serious and concerning... wow I hope this does not last long. I hope you don't end up getting violent in your sleep or start moving around the house doing weird things.

Hi diet,
No, no cramps. But I get the movement of legs flying when I would be relaxed and say typing away here some nights one foot would kick out.... then a few minutes later the same one or another....... or my elbow... its weird and then most of it happens when I am going off to sleep. But yes I do fall into a deep sleep more so in the early part of the morning.
As you said your mother instincts woke you when you were needed, doesnt that just show how our bodies respond to different noises.... that is just amazing all the shaking in the world wouldnt wake,, but yet a cough set off the alarms bells............
take care

Diet,
as I shared it with you already I suffer with same thing too.
They are so real, so intense that when I wake up in a middle of the night, all scared and sweaty - I don't know if this really happening or just a nightmare.
I was explain that many narco meds do it to us, depends on a person of course.
As bad as this is, i had such hallusinations from Morphine IV that my family was so feared that I became a little crazy... LOL
I am with you on it.
I don't remember in the morning what was this all about, but at night is awful!

Round 1 those leg jerks I get in the reclining chair. My legs jerk and I have sent my precious Bichon dog across the room - the poor thing was laying on the pillow under my legs and unfortunately she has taken the hit. ;)
I have brought this up with my doctor and they said it was simply the nerve misfiring. Hope this helps.
As far as the dreams, today my pm doc told me that they are normal and with my new increase we might see more of them. However, if there is any concern about breathing - my hubby reassured her I am breathing - then they should calm down in a couple of weeks.
