I had my annual with a new doctor and and as part of the physical we discussed being tested for STD's. I did and all came back fine except one my HSV2 test. It came by equivoval and she wants me to retest. Here is my question. I have not been sexually active in any form for 10 years. What is the chance this test could be correct? My anxiety level is through the roof right now.

You def. may have gotten it 10 years ago and just don't have symptoms. don't stress. It will be okay. Lot's of women have this and live normal lives.

Do the retest. If you had gotten herpes 2 10 years ago then the blood test would show positive by now as it generally takes 3 - 4 months for the antibodies to show up in a blood test. More than likely it's a false positive. It was an IgG type specific test correct?

Hi. Yes it was the Igg blood test. I don't think I want to retest as I feel strongly as you said that the antibodies would have shown up by now. I'm having anxiety attacks when I think about the retest coming back with a false positive. Thoughts?

I believe I read somewhere on a herpes testing site that the herpeselect tests after 2000 have a 97% accuracy rate. For me, I would redo in a few months just for piece of mind sake. If you have not had any sexual activity in that 10 year time frame, it seems unlikely that this could be a new infection.
