I eat instant oatmeal twice a day. My dietician told me to eat it and I like it. I have read several online articles that say you should not eat instant oatmeal because it has a very high glycemic load. The articles say to eat steel cut oatmeal instead. I would appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

I like the seel cut because it has more flavor and I like the chewy-ness. It keeps me feeling full longer too. It is not instant. You need to cook it awhile. Haven't met many people willing to put up with the inconvieniance but I think its worth it. :)

Even instant oatmeal is very high in fiber. As long as it is PLAIN, rather than the flavored kind which has a lot of sugar added, it's a very healthy breakfast.
Steel cut oatmeal is probably a little better for you, but it takes almost an hour to cook. Who has an hour to cook breakfast?

I actually found some steel cut oatmeal that only takes about 20-25 minutes to cook.

Sometimes I set the stove on low while I have other things to do. I've even shut the stove off and just let it soak there. Also, you can make up a bunch (l do this with brown rice too) and keep in fridge. Just micro and go!
