I have not been sexually active for 4 years. I have just found a lesion in my labia area near the perineum it is not terribly painful and is not blistery, is there any possiblity of it being herpes?

yes. it culd be herpes or hpv. check with doctor as soon as possible before lesion goes away

How long can the virus remain dormant?
I was married to a "busy" man and was unaware at the time. That was almost 8 years ago, we divorced and since then, I have only had protected relationships but that was 4 years ago.
