I am new to all this and dont know when it is ok to have sexual contact after an ob. Do any marks from the ob have to be completely gone. or just the blisters not blistered anymore. I dont really know what I am trying to say, lol. I had what I think was an outbreak starting Sun one week ago today. I am not blistered but there are still very light marks left over.

When I was examined the dr didnt educate me on anything which I think is very bad and he didnt have time for any questions at the time.

Thank you

I'm new at all this too but my gyno said not to have sex until the blisters or popped blisters are completely gone. Everything looked normal to me in about 5 days after what I call was the worst day which is when I went to the gyno and was immediately put on Valtrex (2x per day for 5 days) then one a day after. But honestly I think we waiting until about the 7th day because I was still a little sore. I was more swollen and sore than being covered in blisters.

thank you,

so there can't be even the slightest left over mark of a blister then?

I'm not sure but just like having a cold sore on your mouth...you wouldn't want to kiss anyone until it's completely gone. I mentioned 7 days b/c I had a follow up visit with my gyno & it was time for my yearly (couldn't do that the week before b/c I was so swollen) so I asked my gyno and he said everything was good to go down below. No problems and no ob since the first as of today. I keep crossing my fingers that the first ob will be the only one for a while.

Harley, don't worry if you have more ob. it is common for about a year off and on. eventually they get less and less with time.

I know I shouldn't worry...it could bring on another one! LOL! I just can't fit that into my crazy schedule. But at least I have meds and will double up if one comes on. The pain was the worst of my problem and it went away in two days when I doubled up on meds last time. I've been talking to my gyno's nurse a lot lately and she said in her experience at the clinic, most women who have Type 1 Genital rarely get another ob. She said Type 2 is more active...but everyone is different. This is just what they've been seeing. She also can't believe the number of women that are coming in (mid 30's to late 40's) with the same diagnosis as me. She blames it on all these teenage kids having oral sex. Well, I don't know about that but I guess it's possible...teenage guy kisses teenage girl, girl get's Type 1 oral, then kisses her dad near the mouth when she gets home, he get's Type 1 oral, then he gives wife oral sex, then she get's Type 1 Genital. UGH! They should work harder on a cure or something since this seems to be so out of control.

When i was first diagnosed the doctor took the tissue sample/culture of the sore and then came back into the room. He stood a little more than arms length away, said he believe that is what it was and handed me a brochure.

I wait a few days after any visual signs are gone and use protection.

Hopefully, the news that came out on the 2nd of July would lead to something more meaningful to us. :)

I must have missed that...what was said on July 2nd? I didn't have my results back then so I probably was still on my pain meds and a little out of it...LOL!
