View Full Version : Multiple Myeloma questions

My Mother was recently discovered to have elevated levels of IgA but no M-Spike (at least via blood tests), now she's undergoing the standard Multiple Myeloma tests (bone scan, marrow biopsy) but in the mean time I have some questions.

1. What exactly is the difference between elevated IgA and having an M-Spike?

2. Without an M-Spike, are the chances good that a person does not have Multiple Myeloma?

3. Are there any stats on how often Bence-Jones proteins show up in the urine when an M-Spike doesn't come up in the blood? I'm wondering as the one test my Mom hasn't been ordered is a 24 hour urine collection test.

Thanks, in advance
