Have you tested for HIV through an ELISA? How much time has it passed since your possible exposure? What was the nature of your exposure? Are you a male or a female?

Sorry for so many questions. The thruth is...a CBC CANNOT be used for an accurate diagnosis of HIV. Additionally, a CD4 count without a diagnosis of HIV means nothing. Blood counts go up and down depending on illnesses we may go through, including viruses, bacteria, etc. If you have not had an ELISA test, I'd strongly advise you to test.

More over, if your exposure was potentially risky, (have unprotected sex with a known HIV person), there is the PCR assay, which, although expensive, can be used to detect the virus. But if you dont even know the person was HIV, the PCR is not recommended.

This is my aunts blood test results. She is 48, 26 yrs ago she had a blood transfusion (i dont think it would take 26 yrs for hiv to just to start showing up) when she was 14 she experimented with needles(she tried herion with her friends) Other than that she claims to have had a marital affair but claims he was clean . last time she was with that man was supposedly 3 yrs ago. She has to get a t4 blood test this friday and a western blot test. whats a western blot test?. Someone told me that in a cbc When the cd4 level is low their is a virus, and that once it goes under 200 it is full blown aids. we are nervous for her, and are trying to find as much info as possible. going by the blood test results i know cant really tell anything, but when her DR said that he was leaning towards hiv thats when we all started to worry for her.

I have to agree with Anyone. Yes, a cd4 of less than 200 is considered AIDS, but only if they've first been diagnosed with HIV. There are numerous infections and diseases that can lower a cd4 count. The test is the only way to know conclusively. Try not to worry, but remember no matter what the results she will need support. Positive results will not mean her life is over unless she gives into the disease. However, without that confirmation I wouldn't even think that way. Stress for everyone will only make things worse. Take care and keep us posted!!

I ran in to this link, about CD4 Counts, and how several illness's can cause it to be lowered. I guess im understanding more, and looking on brighter side of things rather then the worst case scenerio. It's just that when i heard everyone saying HIV it stopped my brain. its kinda scary. thanks everyone.
