View Full Version : weak immune systems

still concerned
07-11-2003, 10:56 PM
Does anyone know What could cause weak immune systems?

I tested negative at 3 months. I had surgery 2 months ago. It still not totally recovered yet,(Doc cuts my penis open for remove warts). I have chronic sore throat (red color at my back throat about 2 month, sometimes I can feel discomfort right side of my neck.)

I did not have any fever during 3 months, the only thing I experienced is sore throat and some musle pain at leg ,arm and armpit during 3 months.

I am worried if the surgery make my immune system weak, and I did not produce enough antibody yet. By the way I also did a PCR/DNA test at five weeks, it was negative too.

Can someone give me some clue, what is my chance still infected by HIV?

Thanks

Surgery generally doesn suppress the immune system UNLESS it is a major operation. Weaked systems still fight HIV, just slower, but when I say weak I mean SERIOUSLY weakened, due to Hep C, some chemo treatments, and other disease that weakens the immune system. However, in ALL the cases I have read, the chances of that are extremly slim, and usually occur in health workers who are infected from needlesticks. (Please, I am not an expert, but like you, someone who was SO afraid of HIV I went out and researched it. Everything I site is from what I have read on the internet and locally.) If you are concerned, try the AIDS hotline, or your Dr.

Good Luck.

Ok...

You tested three months and cleared negative. 99.9 percent of people test positive by 3 months if they have the virus. The virus is not your problem. However, give it a couple more weeks to recover from surgery and if you are still feeling lethargic, sore etc... then i would speak with a medical practitioner. Just relax and eat well, AND most importantly try not to stick to the self diagnosis of HIV. Your tests are conclusive and you are not infected. If you are COMPLETELY paranoid about the tests, go if you must and repeat it at six months but man, that is a wedgeee of a stretch if i ever heard one. I would just assume you don't have it. Your tests are all good. Check out your other problemos with a certified doc.
