Wich(filter blocks that word...GIIIIII!!!) Hazel! This is the only thing that calms those itching outbreaks for me. Just put it on a cotton ball and swab it on the area...the longer you swab it the better. HTH! For the outbreaks outside the genital area, after swabbing I apply Calamine Lotion.

I'm taking Zovirax cream in addition to Valtrex. my doctor said not to put anything else on it...do you think witch hazel would really do anything in contact with the cream?

If the medicine that you are using now is working for you then by all means continue to use that. But if it's not doing the trick then might I suggest at least trying witchhazel. Since your doctor says not to use anything else, just use WH only if you stop using the RX cream. In other words, don't mix them together. Personally I can't see how it would hurt to swab with WH first then use the RX but I'm no doctor!

witchhazel will burn so bad because these are open sores and i guess you are trying to instantly burn these off and scab up. I really think this is intense treatment. denavir persription creme heals very fast and won't leave a scar. herpes inside has to run it's course. it's just too moist.

Well all I can tell you is it works for me and isn't strong at all....have you ever used witchhazel before? Alcohol?...now that burns! HA! Whichhazel is not strong like alcohol...it's very mild! I have tried everything imaginable in the 2 years that I've struggled with this mess! Try it if you want or don't...I'm just saying what works for me!

So anyway, I just posted this to help some people that are going crazy itching so bad they are about to go out of their minds like I was! I haven't posted here in ages because of all the arguing(and all the misinformation being given out!) but I do remember many people looking for SOMETHING/ANYTHING to relieve the itching. So I'm sure there are some people still out there looking for some relief as I was! I consider myself to be very well informed about the virus as I have read everything I can get my hands on about this virus!

Everyone has different symptoms with herpes. In fact I will have an ob one time that's itching and the next time it may only be painful with no itching. I believe that WH (being an anti-inflamatory) would also help sooth the sore and swelling OB as it does for me.

the itching really comes when the sore is healing like with any sore. about the witchhazel though i really was suggesting not to put this inside the vagina but if it works on the outside then that's great.

I just took darvocet for the pain along with 3 advil for the swelling. That combo (approved by my gyno) seemed to work. So did warm baths!
